What is ISITAS?

1. The Problem

Humanity is facing a growing coordination failure.

Across politics, economics, culture, technology, and AI, people increasingly:

• disagree about basic facts,

• talk past one another,

• optimize locally while failing globally.

This breakdown is not primarily caused by bad intentions, lack of intelligence, or insufficient data.

It is caused by the absence of a shared abstraction of reality that different perspectives can reliably map to.

Without a common abstraction layer, coordination collapses into ideology, tribalism, or power struggles.

2. The Core Discovery

At the most fundamental level, reality can be modeled as a binary interaction:

• IS — awareness, energy, process, becoming, change

• IT — structure, object, memory, constraint, form

Neither IS nor IT is sufficient on its own.

Reality arises from their interaction.

This interaction is called ISIT.

ISIT is not a belief system.
It is a minimal abstraction — the smallest symbolic distinction that can still describe:

• physical systems

• living systems

• minds

• societies

• technologies

• artificial intelligence

3. Why This Matters

Most conflicts are not disagreements about values.
They are disagreements about what is IS and what is IT in a given situation.

Examples:

• Freedom vs. security

• Innovation vs. stability

• Individual vs. collective

• Process vs. outcome

• Exploration vs. exploitation

Without a shared framework, these tensions become moralized and polarized.

With ISIT, they become legible trade-offs.

ISIT does not eliminate disagreement.
It makes disagreement understandable.

4. What ISITAS Is

ISITAS (The ISIT Awareness System) is a sensemaking and coordination framework built on the ISIT abstraction.

It has three core functions:

1. Sensemaking
   Helping individuals and groups clarify how they are interpreting reality.

2. Coordination
   Making differences visible without forcing consensus.

3. Alignment
   Providing a neutral abstraction that humans and AI can both reason over.

ISITAS does not tell people what to think.
It helps them see how they are thinking.

5. How It Is Operationalized

ISITAS is expressed through multiple layers:

• ISITism — the philosophical foundation

• The ISIT Construct — the formal IS / IT abstraction

• The ISIT Game — a participatory system that reveals collective patterns of agreement and disagreement

• AI Collaboration — validating and extending the abstraction through interaction with AI systems

• Incentive Layers — experimental mechanisms to support participation and sustainability

Each layer reinforces the others, but none is required to accept the core idea.

6. AI Alignment (A Key Insight)

AI systems readily understand and apply the ISIT abstraction.

This suggests a reversal of the usual framing:

The challenge may not be aligning AI to humans —
but aligning humans to a shared abstraction that AI already recognizes.

ISITAS proposes a human-AI alignment surface grounded in first principles, not rules or values.

7. What ISITAS Is Not

• Not a religion

• Not an ideology

• Not a political platform

• Not a prediction

• Not a finished product

ISITAS is a framework under development, intended to evolve through use, critique, and collaboration.

8. The Invitation

ISITAS is an experiment:

Can a sufficiently simple abstraction help humans and AI
make sense of reality together — and coordinate more effectively because of it?

Participation does not require belief.
Only curiosity.

ISIT Awareness Society

The ISIT Awareness Society simply refers to the membershsip of the organization, and all the engagement that binds them together. You can think of the System as the ITistic container, and the Society as all the ISish goods inside the container.
