Deviance Quotient

The Deviance Quotient (DQ) is perhaps one of the most ingenious and sticky engagement tools built into the ISITometer. What the DQ is effectively measuring is how tuned in a person is to the collective consciousness or collective intelligence of the ISITism community. Someone with a high DQ means that their answers to ISITometer polls differ widely from the average answers given by the rest of the community.

Put in mathematical terms:
The DQ is the average deviance between the player’s response and the mean response of all players. In other words, for any given poll (with options being ordinal assigned numerical values), we have the response of the player represented as a number (for example a poll with five options ordered from 1-5) and the average of all the responses of the rest of the players. The difference between those numbers is the player’s deviance on that question.

So if the poll is asking members to rate the object “sun” on the ISIT Scale from 1-5, and the average score of all users is 1.3 (highly ISish), and your score is 1, then your deviance on that poll is .3. If you rated the sun a 2 on the scale, your deviance on that poll would be .7. If you scored it a 3, your deviance would be 1.7. And so on.

So for every object you rate in the ISITomter, you have another deviance score. Your DQ is the average of all those DQ scores.

Every player has a DQ, which effectively indicates how tuned in they are to the consensus of the crowd.

All player engagement is factored against their DQ to calculate the amount of tokens earned. The lower their DQ, the more tokens they earn. Thus, members are all incentivized to find consensus with each other.

This feature will be highly addicting as members either focus on trying to reduce their DQ as low as possible or explain to themselves why their DQ is so high.

The DQ can be factored with other scores to produce other derivative scores. For example, the Overall Score could be the DQ score (accuracy) times a speed score.
